April’s wine dinner will take place earlier in the month than usual, to accommodate the schedule of our special guest, LUX Wines’ Angela Scott (Certified Specialist of Wine, WSET II pass with distinction). LUX Wines hand-selects singular, terroir-driven wines from highly acclaimed wineries around the world, maintaining an elite portfolio.

The four-course dinner will allow guests to “travel” from the Northern Italian vineyards of Jermann Winery in the hills of Friuli-Venezia Giulia, below the Dolomites, to Central Italy’s Argiano winery in Montalcino. Chef Kevin will take his inspiration from the foods of the regions.

The Jermann family’s two estates showcase markedly different terroirs, with the Ruttars estate in the hilly Collio sub-region, just west of the Slovenian border, cooled by the wind off the Adriatic Sea, endowing wines with deeply-perfumed aromatics and zesty acidity and to the south, the Villanova estate in the Isonzo sub-region where the land fans toward the Adriatic and vines grow in more permeable gravel, clay, and sand soils. Temperatures are moderated both by proximity to the sea and the lower Alps.

Argiano’s estate in the southwestern corner of Montalcino sits at 1,000 feet elevation in an ideal growing environment particularly suited to Sangiovese. The vineyards receive bountiful sunlight and warmth, with gentle breezes off the Tyrrhenian Sea and protection from harsh weather thanks to nearby Mount Amiata, one of Tuscany’s highest peaks.

Jermann Winery is internationally renowned for producing some of Italy’s most acclaimed white wines. Jermann balances tradition and innovation, pushing the winery to new horizons while maintaining an enduring respect for the unique terroir of the Collio and Isonzo zones.

Argiano was founded in 1580 and is one of the oldest winemaking estates in Montalcino with a rich history defined by 500 years of grape growing and winemaking. Argiano was one of the first producers of Brunello di Montalcino and combines centuries of experience, precise vineyard management and meticulous practices in the cellar to yield wines that deftly marry concentration and finesse.
